  • The 4K DTT test broadcasts will provide coverage to approximately 10 million people in Madrid, Barcelona and Seville.

Barcelona, 20 December 2016.  Cellnex Telecom is working with RTVE to broadcast the documentary series “Spanish World Heritage Cities” which the infrastructure operator will broadcast in 4K UHD from its broadcasting centres at Torrespaña (Madrid), Collserola (Barcelona) and Valencina (Sevilla), proving once again that Ultra High Definition DTT is possible.

The Spanish World Heritage Cities documentary

‘Spanish World Heritage Cities’ is a documentary series, shot in 4K, showcasing the historical and cultural wealth of the 15 cities in Spain declared as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The monuments and the tourist and cultural services offered by these cities will be shown in fifteen episodes.

The receiving channels are:

  • Madrid: Channel 32
  • Barcelona: Channel 43
  • Seville: Channel 36

The 4K DTT test broadcasts will provide coverage to approximately 10 million people in Madrid, Barcelona and Seville.

Cellnex Telecom, at the forefront of audiovisual technologies

Cellnex Telecom’s technological capacity and all it´s know-how make it a decisive player in designing, developing and implementing the audiovisual technologies that will arrive in the near future into the home.

Cellnex is Europe’s leading independent operator of wireless telecommunications infrastructure, with a total portfolio of over 18,000 sites.

It classifies its activities into three areas: mobile telephony infrastructures; audiovisual broadcasting networks; and security and emergency service networks and solutions for smart urban infrastructure and services management (smart cities and the “Internet of Things” (IoT)).

Radio Televisión Española

Since late 2012, RTVE has been making a series of test broadcasts of 4K content using various means, such as DTT (DVB-T2), satellite (DVB-S2) and internet (Hbb-TV and Dash), both independently and simultaneously. Since then RTVE has produced several programmes in 4K, which have been used for these broadcasts, using both live and recorded material. This confirms that RTVE is at the forefront and is a pioneer in the use of this technology.

To this end it has worked with EBU and subsequently with other important companies in the sector. RTVE has experimented with DVB-T2 broadcasts in various different configurations and locations, as in this case, in which it has tested the processes and techniques involved. The positive results obtained prove the feasibility of broadcasting such content via DTT, making such broadcasts a reality.
