Cellnex has again been distinguished by CDP for its commitment to combating climate change

  • The company has revalidated its spot on the “A List” for the fifth year running.
  • CDP is one of the global benchmark indices assessing organisations’ performance in environment and sustainability matters.

Barcelona, 6 February 2024. For the fifth year in a row, Cellnex has been recognised for its transparency and commitment in tackling climate change, securing a place on the prestigious “A List” of CDP, the non-profit administrator of a global disclosure system allowing investors, companies, cities, states and regions to manage their impact on the environment.

The independent telecommunications infrastructure operator excelled in “opportunity and risk disclosure, business strategy, financial planning and scenario analysis, such as by setting ambitious and meaningful targets.” The company provided these data as part of CDP’s climate change questionnaire in 2023.

Cellnex’s performance in terms of sustainability and its firm commitment to combating climate change place the company in one of the most prominent spots in the CDP index. Out of the more than 21,000 companies making up the index, the telecommunications company managed to revalidate its spot on the “A List”, while also maintaining its pole position in its sector. Within its sustainability commitment, Cellnex also leads its sector in transparency and commitment to climate issues.

Reacting to the news of this award, Àngels Ucero, Director of Sustainability at Cellnex and Director of the Cellnex Foundation, stated “we are satisfied and proud to have revalidated our position for the fifth consecutive year in an index with such international prestige as CDP. Environmental protection and combating climate change are two of the fundamental pillars supporting Cellnex’s sustainability strategy. Inclusion on the “A List” underscores the efforts the company is making to develop and effectively implement good environmental practices and internal monitoring and governance of these.  Public and private organisations must take on climate change as a shared effort to guarantee a sustainable planet with a future for the generations ahead.”

Sherry Madera, CEO of CDP wanted to “congratulate all the companies that have made it onto the CDP index “A List” and those which started or sped up their progress towards environmental transparency in 2023. Over the past year we have seen a 24% increase in disclosures, which is a praiseworthy figure. Laying the foundation for disclosure is the only way companies can take seriously the vital role they play in ensuring a net-zero, nature-positive future. Achieving a spot on the “A List” means more than just a score. It is a comprehensive, high-quality data indicator that provides companies with a comprehensive overview of their environmental impact, serves as a reference for transition plans and, most importantly, allows them to fulfil their ambitions. As we move into the Decade of Action and CDP continually raises the bar for what environmental leadership represents, the work of ‘A-List’ companies is never done. We hope that all companies will turn their commitments into more meaningful and effective actions.”

About CDP

CDP is a global non-profit that runs the world’s environmental disclosure system for companies, cities, states and regions. Founded in 2000 and working with more than 740 financial institutions with over $136 trillion in assets, CDP pioneered using capital markets and corporate procurement to motivate companies to disclose their environmental impacts, and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, safeguard water resources and protect forests.

More than 24,000 organizations around the world disclosed data through CDP in 2023, including more than 23,000 companies worth two-thirds of global market capitalization, and over 1,100 cities, states and regions. Fully TCFD aligned, CDP holds the largest environmental database in the world, and CDP scores are widely used to drive investment and procurement decisions towards a zero carbon, sustainable and resilient economy. CDP is a founding member of the Science Based Targets initiative, We Mean Business Coalition, The Investor Agenda and the Net Zero Asset Managers initiative.

CDP uses a detailed and independent methodology to assess these companies, giving a score of A to D- based on information quality, level of commitment and management of environmental risks. Further, the organisation seeks demonstrations of best practices associated with environmental leadership, such as setting ambitious and meaningful targets. Companies that do not disclose, or provide insufficient information, are not evaluated by CDP and marked with an F.
