With this agreement, MasOrange will continue to improve the connectivity and quality of its services, increasing coverage and browsing speed so that its customers continue to be the most satisfied in the market
Barcelona, 20 February 2025. Cellnex Spain CEO Alfonso Álvarez and MasOrange CEO Meinrad Spenger have signed a long-term contract following the merger of MASMOVIL and Orange in Spain, to which Cellnex was providing telecommunications infrastructure services on a separate basis.
As a result of the agreement, Cellnex will adapt to the network strategy of the new MasOrange, which in the short term involves achieving the synergies announced by the mobile operator.
In return, Cellnex will provide MasOrange –currently the largest operator in Spain by number of customers– with additional services for the necessary densification and quality of its network, including a group of new co-locations (on both existing and new-build sites), 5G upgrades, roll-out of Small Cells, fibre-to-the-tower (FTTT) services and DAS services.
This increase in the capillarity and capacity of the MasOrange network will enable it to continue improving the quality of its mobile services by increasing coverage outside and inside buildings, increasing browsing speed and providing the latest innovations in services, so that its customers continue to be the most satisfied in the market.
The MasOrange mobile network ended 2024 as the leader in the deployment of 5G base stations and offers the highest browsing speed, according to the CNMC. It also leads the Open Signal ranking for 5G network availability and co-leads the Umlaut ranking for the best mobile network in Spain.
Cellnex and MasOrange have also agreed to extend and unify their relationship in a single contract until 2048, with an ‘all or nothing’ in 2038, assuring Cellnex the neutrality of the agreement in the medium term from a cash flow perspective, and MASORANGE a certain flexibility when it comes to extending the agreement in 2038.
Cellnex Spain CEO Alfonso Alvarez described the agreement as “confirmation that we are a long-term industrial partner for our customers. We are very satisfied with this win-win agreement with MasOrange, and the outcome of this first consolidation of mobile operators, providing flexibility in the short term and consolidating our long-term relationship, which also involves service diversification. In the same way as with all our clients, because we are neutral, our priority now will be to roll out the new contracted services and ensure the quality of the MasOrange network.”
Alvarez added, “It is vital for the competitiveness of our country and for Europe to have strong mobile operators with the capacity to invest in the quality and extension of their networks, to address the continued growth of data consumption that will be exponential with AI.”
Meinrad Spenger, CEO of MasOrange, said: “We are very happy with the alliance with Cellnex as it contributes significantly to achieving the synergies announced after our merger in an accelerated manner. In addition, this first agreement will allow us to continue offering our customers the best connectivity on the market, leading the way in the quality, coverage and innovation of mobile services in Spain for the benefit of our users.”
