RC Celta improves connectivity at Abanca Balaídos stadium with Cellnex
Vigo, 31 de octubre de 2024 – RC Celta continues working to optimise its fans’ experience at Abanca Balaídos stadium and has taken a major step in this direction by significantly improving connectivity in the venue. Since the last home game against Real Madrid, the club has implemented a state-of-the-art multi-operator connectivity infrastructure that will allow Celta supporters to enjoy a stable and fast connection thanks to the incorporation of 5G technology. The main goal of this initiative is to connect Celta supporters and improve their experience across the board, both inside and around the stadium.
Cellnex undertook the installation, equipping Balaídos with a multi-operator distributed antenna system (DAS) for the stands that will guarantee optimal network coverage for all attendees, with higher upload and download speeds, even when the venue is packed. Movistar users could already see this in the match against Real Madrid, with very satisfactory 4G and 5G speed rates, even when the stadium was full. And MasOrange and Vodafone users will soon be able to do the same, as talks are underway to get them to join the project.
These improvements were implemented with the support of Vigo City Council to optimise the stadium’s technological infrastructure, positioning it as a more attractive and top-level space. With this approach, the council is showing its commitment to RC Celta and to all its fans by fostering innovation and improving their experience at Abanca Balaídos stadium.
The collaboration between RC Celta and Cellnex also marks a new milestone in the club’s opening to the EU market, strengthening its presence internationally. As the main European operator of telecommunications infrastructures, Cellnex is based on a neutral and shared infrastructure business model that resonates with the values of Celta as a club, particularly as regards its commitment to sustainability through efficient and responsible management of its environmental and social impact.
José Gainzarain, CEO of RC Celta, highlighted that “This technological advance represents not only a step forward in the growth of the club, but also a way of reaffirming its commitment to Celta fans, one of the fundamental pillars of RC Celta.”
For his part, Alfonso Álvarez, CEO of Cellnex Spain, thanked RC Celta for “the trust placed in Cellnex to roll out this multi-operator infrastructure in Balaídos, which will allow it to become one of the stadiums with the best connectivity in Europe.”
