Palma de Mallorca, 27 May 2024. The Balearic Agency for Digitalization, Cybersecurity and Telecommunications (IB Digital), SAMPOL and Tradia – a Cellnex Group company – have formalised the award of the contract for the supply, installation, commissioning and updating of the TETRA stations of the security and emergencies network of the Balearic Islands.
The contract, for a duration of four years, is for an overall amount of nearly EUR 7 million and has been awarded through a public tender to the Temporary Joint Venture formed by SAMPOL and Tradia – a company of the Cellnex Group. This same JV has been responsible for the operation and maintenance of this security and emergency network since 2013 but, once the contract is signed, it will also install new base stations (TBS) to meet the coverage needs of user fleets such as Local Police, Civil Protection, Medical Care Service, Firefighters, among others.
Jose Valero Romero, Commercial Developer at Cellnex Spain, underscored “the importance of IB Digital once again entrusting Cellnex with the operation of the security and emergency networks of the Balearic Islands, this time also for the installation of new equipment. These networks require a very high level of continuity, which we can offer thanks to the excellent team of Cellnex professionals in Spain and the ensemble of infrastructures deployed both on the peninsula and on the islands.”
Miguel Cardona Pons, Managing Director of IB Digital, stressed that “the service of TETRA stations aimed at offering secure communications managed 24×7 to serve public administration personnel with security and emergency responsibilities in the Balearic Islands is vital for the rapid response necessary in emergency situations.”
Cellnex has extensive experience in managing safety and emergency communications networks and services, and its mobile radio systems with their more than 1,300 base stations, serve more than 98,000 users including police officers, firefighters, forest rangers and healthcare personnel throughout Spain. Uppermost among the other contracts is the one that Cellnex has just renewed with Salvamento Marítimo (Maritime Rescue) to provide radio communications service through its Network of Coastal Stations, to allow permanent listening 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, in an area of responsibility of 1.5 million km2.
