Cellnex Telecom and RTVE broadcast opera in 4K Ultra High-Definition

• The signal was broadcast live in Barcelona through channel 22
• This was the first time an opera was produced in 4K in Spain

Barcelona, 22 April 2016.-Cellnex Telecom joined forces with the RTVE Chair to enable a live rebroadcast using ultra high-definition technology (4k) of the opera Parsifal which is currently showing at the Teatro Real in Madrid. This is the first time an event of this nature has been broadcast using this technology.

The DTT broadcast took place from 19:00 to 00:30 on 21 April from the Collserola Tower broadcast centre, on UHF channel 22, which reaches about 4 million people.

To perform this broadcast, Cellnex Telecom set up a transmitter using DVB-T2, the second-generation Digital Terrestrial Video Broadcasting standard, in the Collserola broadcasting centre.

Broadcasting this opera in 4K was the result of a joint effort between the RTVE Chair and His-pasat, which are working together with Cellnex to promote this technology within the Spanish audiovisual sector, involving all stakeholders in the value chain, from 4K production to manufacturing receivers, and also involving signal transmission.

The broadcasts were viewed at RTVE’s studios in Sant Cugat on two Sony 4K TV sets with integrated DVB-T2 tuner (KD75X9405C, KD65X9005C).
