Connectivity and operational excellence solutions for infrastructure management
Mobile World Congress Barcelona 2024
At MWC, Cellnex presents its pan-European network of telecommunications infrastructure that guarantees its customers coverage and capacity, both in densely populated and rural areas. It also underlines the importance of operational excellence for its management.
Barcelona, 20 February 2024. Cellnex Telecom takes part in the Mobile World Congress 2024, the benchmark event for the telecommunications sector, to be held in Barcelona from 26 to 29 February
Cellnex, Europe’s leading operator of wireless telecommunications and broadcasting infrastructures, present in 12 countries and with a portfolio of 138,000 sites –including forecast roll-outs up to 2030–, will be present at stand 4C50 located in pavilion 4 of Fira Gran Via in Hospitalet to showcase the connectivity solutions that it offers its customers to help them expand their networks and enjoy additional capacity in areas with high population density and in rural and sparsely populated areas where access to connectivity is also an economic and social driver.
To explain these solutions, Cellnex will attend to visitors in front of a large interactive touchscreen through which they can “access” their infrastructure –in dense areas, but also in rural areas– as well as the indoor and outdoor connectivity projects that the company has implemented around Europe (metros, stadiums, shopping centres, hospitals, historic buildings, city centres…) using Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) and Small Cells. This large screen will also show the use cases of the 5GMED project, co-financed by the European Commission, which aims to provide a sustainable 5G deployment model for future rail and road mobility in the Mediterranean corridor between the French-Spanish border.
The company will also participate in the Tower & Fiber Forum, organised by GSMA, where it will share its experience managing active equipment which it is currently providing in Poland for mobile operator Plus –above and beyond the passive infrastructure–, which is a unique case in the telecommunications infrastructure operators sector in Europe.
Operational excellence
Operational excellence is critical for managing telecommunications infrastructures. These infrastructures require 24/7/365 monitoring, very high availability and uninterrupted service levels.
This year, Cellnex will display, at stand 4C50 (hall 4), how it performs its activity to provide optimal service to its customers in four areas:
- Smart Access: The infrastructure digital access project –already implemented in more than 43,000 sites– which makes monitoring easier, more transparent and sustainable.
- Service Assurance: Cellnex manages a total of 20 million alerts per month from its Network Operations Centres (NOCs): power outages, weather impacts, access incidents, connectivity failures, equipment breakdowns, etc.
- Critical Services: A mission-critical network requires security, coverage, reliability, resilience and capacity. Cellnex has experience in managing mission-critical networks for security and emergency forces.
- Sustainable Sites: Cellnex’s commitment to achieving zero emissions by 2050 is firm. To achieve this goal, more and more sites are using renewable energy.
- Digital Twin: This project allows infrastructure management to become completely virtual and automated.
Space for start-ups of the Cellnex Bridge programme
New this year, the stand will also host the five start-ups of the third edition of the Cellnex Bridge programme promoted by the Cellnex Foundation. The start-up acceleration project is now in its third edition and accompanies social impact projects that use connectivity to focus on reducing digital, social and territorial gaps, and projects that contribute to environmental sustainability or the fight against climate change.
The founders of Biofood Network, Citizens Immigration, Dive, ForestChain and NeurekaLab will be present in an area at the Cellnex stand presenting their projects first-hand.
In this way, Cellnex joins the spirit of 4YFN that seeks to energise and enhance the entrepreneurial ecosystem and showcase it at one of the most important global forums in the sector.
Sustainable stand
In line with Cellnex’s environmental and climate change commitment, this year the Company has incorporated sustainability criteria into the design, construction, operation and end-of-life project of the materials used for the stand that will help minimise the impact and reduce the carbon footprint generated by this activity.
Both the construction of the stand and the material used during the days of the event and the end-of-life of all these materials have been chosen meticulously using sustainability-at-source certifications, and have been design to reduce and limit the carbon emissions they generate as much as possible. Likewise, Cellnex will offset, once the event is over, the stand’s emissions that have not been reduced, by acquiring compensation credits in the voluntary emissions market, thus achieving neutrality in the CO2 emissions produced.
