PORTWIN Project

The main objective of PORTWIN is to turn the Port of Valencia into the first logistics-port environment that assists the docking of vessels in real time with technologies such as 5G, Radar, Edge Computing and Artificial Intelligence.

This combination of state-of-the-art technologies significantly improves the efficiency and safety of ship operations and berthing manoeuvres. In addition, it directly helps to improve the entire logistics chain, reduce the carbon footprint and use raw materials more efficiently. It also defines a framework to develop the industrial Internet of Things (IoT) in general and logistics and port facilities in particular.

The PORTWIN project is led by Fivecomm with the participation of Cellnex, Fundación Valenciaport, Universitat Politècnica de València, A4Radar and the Valencia Port Authority, and is co-funded by the Agència Valenciana de la Innovació (INNCAD/2021/14).

Digitalizing the Port of Algeciras

The 5G network in the Port of Algeciras helps enhance the efficiency and safety of the thousands of private and cargo-carrying vehicles that pass through port facilities.

In Andalusia, where the project is part of Vodafone’s Pilotos 5G de Red.es, a total of 32 use cases are being developed in an array of areas like digital transformation, agriculture, renewable energy, security, and efforts to narrow the digital divide.
