Cellnex included in the Dow Jones European Sustainability Index (DJSI Europe)

It is the first and only telecommunications infrastructure operator present in any of the components of this global ESG benchmark index. Only 10% of companies from each sector that participate in the analysis are chosen to be part of the index

Barcelona, 11 December 2023.- S&P Global has recognised Cellnex as one of the main companies in the telecommunications sector in terms of sustainability, and has included it for the first time in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index Europe (DJSI Europe), the European and global reference index whose annual composition was made public on 8 December 2023. Only five companies in the telecommunications sector have been included this year in DJSI Europe: Deutsche Telekom, KPN, Telecom Italia, Telefónica and Cellnex.

Cellnex has become the first and only telecommunications infrastructure operator in the index, not only in Europe, but also at global level. The company achieved 91 points in the environmental dimension –the best company in the sector in this area–, 78 in the social dimension and 75 points in the economic and corporate governance dimension.

This year, more than 13,000 companies were invited to participate in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA). More than 3,400 companies responded to a questionnaire with over a hundred questions on environmental, social and governance (ESG) matters. S&P analyses companies’ public and non-public data to measure their performance.

Only 10% of companies from each sector with the best score in this analysis are chosen to be part of the index. The evaluation by rating agency S&P determines whether companies are included in this Dow Jones Sustainability Index, which will make its new composition effective on 18 December.

Alongside DJSI Europe, Cellnex is also part of the main international sustainability indices, including CDP, Sustainalytics, FTSE4Good and MSCI. The company is also part of the Bloomberg Gender Equality Index.

Being selected for, and staying in, these indices depends on companies proving constant progress and influences their eligibility in investment portfolios, which give increasing importance to the non-financial factors of the companies.
