Cellnex presents its innovations in the field of critical communications and edge connectivity
Critical Communication Week
The operator sponsors and participates in the conference programme of the Critical Communication Week, one of the international benchmark meetings in the field.
It presents its over 20 years’ expertise in the field of critical communications for security and emergency services and its latest developments in private networks with LTE technology.
Together with EDZCOM, a Finnish company recently acquired by Cellnex, it will present its edge connectivity solutions for industry 4.0.
Barcelona, 30 October 2020. Cellnex, the leading European telecommunications infrastructure and services operator, is taking part in Critical Communication Week, held from 2 to 6 November in virtual format.
This event has become the benchmark meeting for companies and organisations working in the field of critical communications. This edition is held in digital format as an evolution of Critical Communication World that will be held in face-to-face format in 2021.
Solutions for critical communications and dedicated networks with LTE technology
Cellnex sponsors and participates in one of the round tables held within the conference programme, and will also set out in a virtual stand its portfolio of solutions for critical communications aimed at two differentiated segments.
Private Networks: Solutions based on the design, management and maintenance of private LTE and 5G networks for industries and critical spaces (ports, airports, petrochemical plants, factories, etc). In this area, Cellnex has strengthened its position after acquiring Finnish company EDZCOM, the Nordic market leader in edge connectivity solutions that currently operates 27 private LTE networks in airports and ports, among other facilities.
One of the most outstanding success stories of the Finnish operator is the private network installed for the operator Finavia at Helsinki airport. Using LTE technology, this network makes it possible to respond to current and future communication needs in the light of a foreseeable increase in air traffic.
EDZCOM has designed and installed, and operates, the private LTE network of the port of Oulu, a complex of three ports, rail and road network, which constitute Northern Europe’s logistics centre towards Scandinavia and Russia.
EDZCOM and Cellnex are already working to expand this type of solution to the other countries where the Group operates, based on the progressive deployment of 5G technology, especially in the industrial field.
Mission Critical: Cellnex has accumulated over 20 years of experience as a provider of TETRA networks to emergency and security forces in Spain. Its main customers in this area include the RESCAT network in Catalunya, the COMDES network of the Valencian Community, Radiercam in Murcia and Resgal in Galicia.
The company is working to lead the technological advance in the field of critical communications and is undertaking various pilots for verifying the versatility of the LTE technology in these types of networks.
LTE technology offers a number of advantages related to the real-time transmission of high-quality images. The adoption of this technology by the security forces in their communications will provide solutions related to augmented reality, thermal identification or biometric recognition, among others.
Connectivity, key in the digitalisation of the industry
On Wednesday 4 November Cellnex is holding a virtual meeting entitled “Critical Communications in Industry 4.0”, within the conference programme of the event.
The meeting will be attended by UK communications regulator OFCOM, BASF and NOKIA, to exchange their vision and iniciatives in this field and to debate the key role that private communications networks play and will play in the digitalisation of industry and productive economy.
