Cellnex to roll out mobile coverage on metro lines 16 and 17 of Grand Paris Express
Paris, 27 September 2021 – Cellnex France has just been entrusted by the Société du Grand Paris (SGP) with the deployment of an indoor radio network DAS (Distributed Antenna System) on new lines 16 and 17 of the Grand Paris Express metro. Europe’s leading independent wireless telecoms infrastructure operator will thus offer continuous and optimal connectivity –voice and data– regardless of the mobile operator, in all stations and tunnels between Saint-Denis Pleyel and Noisy-Champs (Line 16 ) and Charles de Gaulle airport and Le Mesnil Amelot (line 17).
Cellnex’s expertise in this field, which was recently proven on similar projects in the UK (for Network Rail) or in the Netherlands (for ProRail), will thus be available to Grand Paris Express travellers on a daily basis from 2024, year in which the Parisian capital will host the Olympic Games.
The signing of this seventeen and a half-year contract concludes a selection process that began at the end of 2019.
Vincent Cuvillier, General Manager of Cellnex France, stressed that “the Grand Paris Express is an important milestone in the history of Cellnex in France. It is also an excellent demonstration of the strong and lasting commitment of the company for which France is today a key market in its development strategy, with over €10 billion invested or committed since 2016; strong partnerships with the main French telecoms operators; a constant commitment to help build the 5G ecosystem but also to guarantee increased optimal connectivity for everyone, throughout the territory (high-speed national network and edge computing services).”
Loïc Besnard, Commercial Director of Cellnex France, affirmed “the timeliness, through lines 16 and 17 of the Grand Paris Express, of again recalling all of Cellnex’ s expertise in implementing connectivity infrastructures, whether it is using multi-operator DAS systems in special areas (stations, tunnels, offices, car parks, stadiums, shopping malls, etc.), or private networks and the Internet of Things (IoT) for Industry 4.0 and smart cities.”
“Bespoke offers designed to meet connectivity needs in key industrial sectors such as Rail Transport, Automotive, Energy, Environment, Sport, Mass Distribution, but also Health and Biopharma, such as the establishment of an OpenLab innovation this year in partnership with the company MGA Technologies to test the new 5G use cases of the factory of the future.”
“In the public service spirit of the Grand Paris Express, the universality, neutrality and scalability of the connectivity infrastructure have been the priority axes of Cellnex and all the partners involved in the project –NOKIA, SNEF TELECOM, COMMSCOPE and AXIANS– whem defining it.”
