Cellnex, in the “A List” of companies leading the fight against climate change for the second year in a row
CDP is a global gold standard for measuring and rating corporate transparency in environmental and sustainability matters.
Of the more than 5,800 companies analysed worldwide, only 271 (4.7%) are included in the ‘A List’.
CDP recognises Cellnex’s action plans and transparency in aspects such as emission reduction, risk management processes or corporate governance.
Barcelona, 30 December 2020. For the second year in a row, Cellnex has been recognised for its commitment to sustainability and the fight against climate change by CDP –which manages a global disclosure system for investors, companies, cities, states and regions to measure their environmental impact–, securing a place on its prestigious ‘A List’.
Specifically, Cellnex has been awarded this distinction for its actions to cut emissions, mitigate climate risks and develop the low-carbon economy, based on the data reported by the company through CDP’s 2020 climate change questionnaire.
Cellnex is one of a small number of high-performing companies out of 5,800+ that were scored in this edition, joining the group of 271 organisations that make up the ‘A List’. Through significant demonstrable action on climate, Cellnex is leading on corporate environmental ambition, action and transparency worldwide.
The CDP index is widely recognised as the gold standard of corporate environmental transparency. In 2020, over 515 investors with over US$106 trillion in assets and 150+ major purchasers with US$4 trillion in procurement spend requested companies to disclose data on environmental impacts, risks and opportunities through CDP’s platform. This year, over 9,600 companies, with more than 50% of the global market capitalisation, released environmental data based on this index.
A detailed and independent methodology is used by CDP to assess these companies, allocating a score of A to D based on the comprehensiveness of disclosure, awareness and management of environmental risks and demonstration of best practices associated with environmental leadership, such as setting ambitious and meaningful targets. Those that don’t disclose or provided insufficient information are marked with an F.
Tobías Martínez, CEO of Cellnex Telecom, stated that “at Cellnex, the entire team strives every day to ensure that our business activity is as respectful as possible with our surroundings and the environment. Our efforts are clearly paying off –for the second year in a row, Cellnex has entered CDP’s ‘A List’, a level of excellence that highlights the application of best practices. Our challenge now is to improve day by day until we reach a zero-emissions business activity. The fight against climate change must be performed by or entire society: citizens, companies and administrations. And at Cellnex, the commitment to respect the environment is, and must be, one of our pillars”.
Paul Simpson, CEO of CDP, said: “We extend our congratulations to all the companies on this year’s A List. Taking the lead on environmental transparency and action is one of the most important steps businesses can make, and is even more impressive in this challenging year marked by COVID-19. The scale of the risk to businesses from climate change, deforestation and water insecurity is enormous, and we know the opportunities of action far outweigh the risks of inaction. Leadership from the private sector will create an ‘ambition loop’ for greater government action and ensure that global ambitions for a net zero sustainable economy become a reality. Our A List celebrates those companies who are preparing themselves to excel in the economy of the future by taking action today.”
