Barcelona, 24 March 2015
Abertis Telecom Terrestre, Abertis’ telecommunications subsidiary, will operate as Cellnex Telecom, S.A. from 1st April. The brand will be “Cellnex” and its slogan will be “driving telecom connectivity.”
Cellnex Telecom is a company with global ambitions. One that currently serves over 100 million people throughout Europe, with the desire and capacity to support the rollout of new generation infrastructures in the field of telecommunications and which are set to play a pivotal role in the adoption of 4G and, in future, of 5G. Infrastructures and networks that will guarantee reliable signal and data transmission for services and content providers; and secure, reliable, constant and mobile access for their customers. Instantaneously, wherever they are.
Cellnex Telecom comes into being as a global operator with a commitment, in partnership with its customers, to introducing groundbreaking technologies that strengthen the foundations of a connected society and economy, in which individuals, companies, and public and private organisations and institutions, can maximise their capacities thanks to the growing “nexus” and interconnection fostered by more and more efficient communications networks.
A new cycle characterised by growth and international expansion
The new name and brand symbolise the start of a new stage for Abertis Telecom Terrestre. Following the recent deal in Italy with the Italian mobile telephony operator WIND to acquire and manage a large proportion of its mobile telephone towers, coupled with the company’s potential flotation in the first half of 2015, Abertis Telecom is is in the process of refounding itself.
The company is now Europe’s leading telecommunications infrastructure manager and has taken a qualitative leap in the expansion and strengthening of its mobile infrastructure sharing business, which, following the final closing of the deal with WIND, will contribute over 50% of the total revenue of Abertis’ subsidiary. It is also worth noting that 35% of these will be revenues from abroad.
As a result of that, Abertis Telecom Terrestre has bolstered its position as an integrated infrastructure and telecommunications network operator serving the broadcasting, mobile telephony and security and emergency networks markets, as well as in the nascent field of the Internet of Things and of applications for smart city projects. In addition, the company remains steadfastly committed to the international expansion of its activities.
