Barcelona, 12 November 2017. Cellnex Telecom will take part in the next Smart City Expo & World Congress to be held in Barcelona from 14 – 16 November, an event which has become one of the main meeting points of cities and companies working to develop the “Smart City”.
The company, which has taken part in this event since its first edition in 2011, will this time focus on responding to one of the main challenges of society today: creating innovative territories able to strike a balance between social development, environmental sustainability and economic competitiveness.
Cellnex promotes the design of solutions for smart management of infrastructures and urban services tailored to the new cities, identifying the behaviours and needs of people and the environment in which they operate.
At Cellnex’s stand (Hall 2, No 142) the company’s specialists in Smart products will demonstrate how to efficiently manage urban resources (energy, water flow, environment) using the Internet of Things network and the Smart Brain platform.
Internet of Things (IoT) network
Since 2015, Cellnex has been rolling out the first network oriented to Internet of Things (IoT) services that provides service throughout the Spanish territory, with a national coverage of 95% through more than 1,450 sites. More than one million devices are already connected and use the Cellnex IoT network every day.
Among the most important qualities of this network are its efficiency in costs and energy consumption, which have made it feasible to implement cases that were previously impossible because of high implementation, operation or maintenance costs.
This network is based on technology from French manufacturer SIGFOX, already implemented successfully in other countries. Specifically in Spain, the one million devices connected to this network are currently providing water telemetry, security, waste or parking services, among others.
Smart Brain platform
Cellnex allows data to be collected using IoT sensors and other information sources to be transported securely through its extensive infrastructure of connectivity networks and to be processed in its open Smart Brain platform.
This platform provides reliable real-time information for decision-making, co-creation of solutions designed around people and achieving tangible and measurable results.
The future of connectivity
Óscar Pallarols, Cellnex’s Director of Innovation and Product Strategy, is taking part in the conference held in parallel to the Fair, along with leading international experts.
Óscar Pallarols will present Cellnex’s vision of Cellnex on the future of connectivity that will come with the roll-out of 5G networks and its disruptive effect on urban infrastructure, society and the economy as part of the session entitled “Rethinking urban infrastructure in the digital age” on 14 November at 5.30 p.m.
