Cellnex consolidated on CDP’s A List for its fight against climate change

For the third consecutive year

  • Only 272 of the more than 12,000 companies and organisations analysed worldwide have made it onto the A List.
  • CDP is a global gold standard for rating corporate commitment to environmental and sustainability matters.

Barcelona, 10th December 2021. For the third year running, Cellnex has been recognised for its commitment to combating climate change by CDP —a non-profit organisation that manages a global system of disclosure for investors, companies, cities, states and regions to manage their environmental impact— securing a place on its A List.

Specifically, the independent telecommunications infrastructure operator has distinguished itself by implementing targets and measures to cut emissions, mitigate climate risks and develop a low-carbon economy. The Company provided these data in the CDP´s 2021 climate change questionnaire.

Cellnex’s commitment to ESG and combating climate change has distinguished it as one of the best performing organisations in the index. Of the almost 12,000 companies that CDP rated for this edition, the telecommunications company held onto its place in the group of companies on the A List. Through significant demonstrable action on climate, Cellnex is leading on corporate environmental ambition, action and transparency.

The CDP index is among the most renowned for assessing corporate environmental transparency. In 2021, over 590 investors (with over US$110 trillion in assets) and 200 major institutional investors (with US$5.5 trillion in procurement spend) requested companies to disclose data, through CDP’s platform, on the environmental impacts, risks and opportunities of their corporate business.

CDP uses a detailed, independent methodology to assess these companies, allocating a score of A to D, based on the comprehensiveness of disclosure, awareness and management of environmental risks, and demonstration of best practices associated with environmental leadership, such as setting targets. CDP does not assess those that do not disclose or provide insufficient information, and they are rated F.

Tobias Martinez, CEO of Cellnex Telecom, said “We are very proud that, for the third year running, an index of international prestige and recognition such as the CDP has acknowledged Cellnex’s commitment in terms of sustainability and climate change. Being on the A List highlights our effective development and implementation of good practices in environmental matters and in internal control and governance. Combating climate change must be a shared effort by public and private organisations so as to ensure that our planet is sustainable and offers a future to the coming generations”.

“Many congratulations to all the companies on this year’s A List,” CDP CEO Paul Simpson said. “Taking the lead on environmental transparency and action is one of the most important steps businesses can make, even more so in the year of COP26 and the IPCC’s Sixth Assessment Report. The scale of the risk to businesses from climate change, water insecurity and deforestation can no longer be ignored, and we know the opportunities of action far outweigh the risks of inaction. Leadership from the private sector is essential for securing global ambitions for a net-zero, nature-positive and equitable world. Our A List celebrates those companies who are preparing themselves to excel in the economy of the future by taking action today.”
