Cellnex Telecom and SIGFOX sponsor the first edition of the IOT Solutions World Congress

Cellnex Telecom and SIGFOX sponsor the first edition of the IOT Solutions World Congress

  • Cellnex Telecom and SIGFOX are sponsoring the first edition of the Internet of Things (IoT) World Congress, which will showcase applications for the industrial, healthcare, transport and energy sectors, among others.
  • Cellnex Telecom and SIGFOX will showcase specific IoT applications for various sectors, as well as integrated solutions that run on the IoT network already rolled out in Spain and connected to the SIGFOX global network.

Cellnex Telecom, the main independent European telecommunications infrastructure operator, and SIGFOX, the global leader in cost-effective, energy-efficient Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity, are sponsoring the first Internet of Things (IoT) World Congress, to be held in Barcelona from 16 to 18 September.

This event showcases technological innovations that various companies in the industrial and technological sector have developed in the field of the Internet of Things. The Barcelona conference wishes to stand out from other international events dealing with IoT by presenting real solutions that apply to the various industrial sectors.

For this edition, the event focuses on the application of this technology in the transport and logistics, energy, industrial, technological or health sectors. In relation to this area, Eric Nicolas, Product Marketing Manager of SIGFOX, will present dedicated solutions to facilitate the management of assisted living services with a presentation entitled “How Global IoT Connectivity Transforms Assisted Living”.

The innovations to be presented at the stand that Cellnex Telecom and SIGFOX will share at the congress include applications for the environmental and agricultural sector, such as a wind monitoring system and water supply and irrigation infrastructures. Domestic applications will also be covered, with the presentation of the latest developments in smoke detection technology.

By sponsoring this event, Cellnex Telecom maintains its positioning in the technological area of IoT as a provider of integrated solutions using the global SIGFOX network specifically dedicated to the Internet of Things.

A new model of connectivity

This network for the Internet of Things (IoT) provides low-cost connectivity services, minimal configuration and low power consumption for physical devices and objects. It is a new generation system that uses the global network and technology provided by SIGFOX, a company with which Cellnex Telecom has signed a strategic partnership to roll out the network in Spain, which already comprises 1,300 base stations covering almost all of the population. This technology enables long-range connections up to a distance of tens of kilometres, minimises energy consumption and ensures connectivity of the device with no need to specifically roll out local communications infrastructure for each application.

This network has made it possible to develop innovative products such as new generation household alarms. However, many more applications can be developed in the future and are already taking shape in sectors such as health, waste and water management, smart infrastructures, remote control and many other developing markets.

Cellnex Telecom

Cellnex Telecom is Europe’s leading independent operator of wireless telecommunications and broadcasting infrastructures.

It offers sites to rent for telecommunications operators and provides the most advanced audiovisual services to national, regional and local broadcasters.

Over the past four years, Cellnex Telecom has made a firm commitment to developing a network of over 15,000 sites and has enjoyed strong growth in the mobile phone towers area through agreements with operators like Telefónica and Yoigo in Spain, the purchase of the Italian company TowerCo in 2014, and the recent acquisition of 7,400 towers in Italy following the agreement with WIND to gain control of Galata.

It also develops solutions in the “smart city” projects field and has rolled out a smart communications network making it possible to connect objects and develop a strong ecosystem for the Internet of Things (IoT) in Spain.

Cellnex Telecom also plays a key role in rolling out telecommunications networks for security and emergency forces.

SIGFOX

SIGFOX is the world’s leading provider of dedicated cellular connectivity for Internet of Things and machine-to-machine communications. The company’s network complements existing high-bandwidth systems by providing economical, energy-efficient two-way transmission of small quantities of data over long distances, thus lowering barriers to wide implementation of IoT and M2M solutions, and greatly extending the battery and service life of connected devices. SIGFOX, currently deployed in nine countries, today covers 400,000 square miles with a population of 165 million people. Five million devices already are registered in the network. Corporate headquarters are in Labège, France, and the company has offices in Paris, Madrid, Boston and San Francisco. For more information, see www.SIGFOX.com and follow us on Twitter @SIGFOX.
