5G Logistics has the aim of showing the potential of highly accurate and real time location and condition tracking of containers and individual items in a freeport freezone scenario, replace manually intensive processes with 5G enabled autonomous systems, improve road traffic management and improve air quality and bring SMEs, universities and public bodies together to make strides towards the digital infrastructure of the future through the 5G private network capabilities. The total project value is £5,212,293 and the DCMS (Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport) funding of the whole Consortium (12 partners) is £3,009,828 in 18 months.
The 5G LOGISTICS project, through the Bristol Port, Gravity and St. Andrews Road locations. will demonstrate the following use cases:
FREEPORT: Dynamic creation of 5G enabled digitally geofenced zones and corridors:
Accuracy of location tracking of onboarded goods (customs and security)
Detection of goods leaving the geofenced zone
Detection of goods leaving their anchoring RFID 5G_IoT_Router
Automated speed of digital transfer of goods between two RFID 5G_IoT_ Routers replacing manual operations.
PORT POLICE DRONES (UAV) Automated drone flight for boundary inspection, ad hoc surveillance and trigger event response.
SMART JUNCTIONS 5G upgrades to an existing smart junction automation setup. 5G will support new functionality for extracting data to the MEC and cloud, departing from today’s self-contained systems.
As a project framed in DCMS 5G Testbeds, it is led by WECA (WEST OF ENGLAND COMBINED AUTHORITY), in consortium with the BRISTOL CITY COUNCIL (Public sector partners), CELLNEX, ADVA, AIRSPAN, ATTOCORE and UNMANNED LIFE (Tech partners), the UNIVERSITY OF BRISTOL and the CARDIFF UNIVERSITY (Academic partners) and THE BRISTOL PORT COMPANY, MARITIME TRANSPORT and GRAVITY (Logistics partners).
