The overall objective of the project is to research and develop on the virtualization of network functions (Network Function Virtualization, NFV) and the radio access (Radio Access Network, RAN) in the area of mobile networks. This general objective is broken down into the following specific objectives:
- Offer the physical resources of the access network as a services.
- Offer the core functions of the network as a services.
- Implementation of an integrated management system specially designed for a platform that offers mobile services in a virtualized way in a multi-operator environment.
- Integration of all modules into a single system that is capable of servicing several operators simultaneously.
The Veo5G project is being developed by a consortium led by Retevisión (Cellnex group) that counts on the participation of the company Optare Solutions and the technology centers Gradiant and Universidade de Vigo. The project has an expected length of 2 and half years (2017-2019) and has the support and funding of the CDTI (Centro para el Desarrollo Tecnológico e Industrial) through the program CID (IDI20170295).
